Tension amongst Lankans

The last few weeks since the final crack within the cease-fire agreement between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE, the situation had been constanlty deteriorating. The latest was the break up of Denmark and finland from the SLMM which now looks as an encouraging option for the other countries to pull out too. Further since January 2006 the death toll due to incidences within the country has crossed 700 and ruching to 800.

The situation in Colombo may be carm even after the Army commander was targetted but esacaped and joined the force again last week, and no3 was in fact assasinated, the colombo people seem to be digesting these matters well. However, deep within, there is a thought which voices in each and every person head " We are heading towards something big and disastrous from which we may not be able to turn around" ! Hoping for the best for the generations ahead i sincerely hope that the parties concerend would do something to make this island a peaceful nation as the others percept!

Lets hope for the best!

Fuel Strike

The coutry is known as the Pearl of The Indian Ocean. "POTIO". But this Pearl seems to be having problems for the past 30 or so years thus becoming tarnished in its colour and fame. The latest is the fuel strike. Would you beleive that since Monday the 24th there has been no fuel? The traffic has come to a stand still.

However it had been sorted off last evening after the final talks and negotiations had taken place and all expect the fuel to be distributed by the Colombo fuel stations but i find that until now 0930 hrs not a single drop is available.

If you think the country is going to the dogs...my friends..you are mistaken. It's the turn of wolves to take over now! And all of us are being hunted down!

Let the Run begin!

Pranap turns to the Aussie's

There are two times in life that one would seperate from the loved ones. One is for education and the other being work. Pranap, my cousin, followed suite to check on his career in the line of finance by taking up his undergraduation in Sydney Australia. Good for him. Hope he gets his goals oriented to become one whome we all would be proud of.

However, I have my reservations. Australians, no offense, but your country aint great for education in comparison other colleges and markets in the globe for the field of finance UG. However, yours is a very tempting and alluring destination for vacationists. This is one matter which should be considered by any person planning to take up his educational career there. Would you believe that i have a few friends in Australia who did say that at times graduates from NUS Singapore are given a better job offer within the country whereas other australian degree holders in finance dont have the same, or even worse not even the offer!!

Whatever said, a destination of paradise for love, friendship, travel....Aussie is the deal. So brothers n sisiters..you know where to party when it comes to fun...!!

Losing your beloved helpers!

I am one of the most priviledged or rather the unlucky human being in the society of mankind to be blessed with 36 teeth. I guess god had given one look at my appetite and thought of 4 extra teeth to help the suffering of the rest of my body. However, i guess he had forgotton to defy the size, hence the overcrowding had made me to remove them in 2 stages.

The initial set of 4 was removed in the front in order to give me ample space to use the brazes to set my teeth fine in order. this was around 10 years back. it took me 4 long years of suffering pain which increased every time i went to the dentist due to further tightening of the braces. The worst part of it was that after tightening the braces, i had a hard time even biting into bread. I spent 2 days every month on porridge.

When you think of it, i never imagined on getting my swim teeth extracted. For those who do not know; Swim teeth are teeth that grow horizontal due to no space for upward growth. They are so close to the tonguesills that they appear buried within the gum and come out very late, just shooting a small head out. The problem is that, they give way for harmful bacteriological growth as well as offer no use at all. the next problem is that, the teeth right above them, tend to drop down in days to come due to non availability of a proper resistance below. this is a very rare case scenario. And Lo......I had 2 of them. Each on one side. The first set was extracted 2 years ago and the last 2 yesterday.

The pain is amazing. I cant eat, can open my jaw, cant sneeze, not even cough. To make it even better, i am down with a cold, tonguesills, cough and a slight fever. My body is having a Gala time yeh?

However it is now time for dedications. These 2 swim teeth and its oppostite neighbours have been with me for the past 10 years, working fearlessly, to keep mt stomach and the tongue happy. Parting with them means that the tongue and my stomach are gonna have a hard time as i am still gonna eat the same at the same time no matter what happens. Therefore i would like to dedicate 2 days of my life to thos lovable sisters who had helped me throughout my activities involving my mouth (90 % of my life has been that..no wonder im over weight..hehe) . Ive become a total vegetarian as well as on a liquid diet. These lovely pretty ladies are lying at the backyard. We had given them a full ceremonial burial.

My Teeth, May you Rest in Peace!

Nithya - Back on track

Life is full uf suprises. Some good and some bad. But if you analyse these fully, it is the bad that really stick to you so hard that you tend to talk about it, or at least think about it more often. Such was an incident in my life around 13 years back.

My dads younger brother passed away due to an undetected, or should i say rather lately detected cancer, which could have been cured if the proper diagnosis was done. This resulted in my Sithi, her son Mowly and daughter Nithya leaving to Canada for good. Its been 10 years since i had seen her. This week Nithya was back with us for a couple of days on a vacation home away from home. We had our memories flowing, tears rolling and laughter keeping the neighbours awake.

We had an evening out at the new joint Anjappar with Raji Athai n family where we talked about the place, cried having the soup, relished eating the meal and fished out for a spot for desert. Lastly we ended at The Carnival's Parlour to enjoy some Sundae's. I still regret not being able to devour a portion of the well known Anjappar Briyani..Damn!

Time flew fast, however Nithya is planning to be back in Sri Lanka for 2 days enroute to Canada. Hope to catch her then. Maybe we could patch life more than we would ever think of.

Time shall take its turn. After all - it is the best healer.

Eye sight

People have a variety of weaknesses with regard to their health. One of the most common is eye sight. At my tender age of 12, wearing a pair of spectacles made me, or should i say thought that it made me to look mature, studious and splendid in my looks as a school boy. However within 2 years the pleasure and priviledge of wearing a pair of glasses turned out to be a pain.

Now at my age of 26, after nearly 3 years of planning to perform the LASIC surgery which corrects the weaknesses in the eye, I have finally made a tentative booking at Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, South India to correct my vision. The range of surgeons and optometrists that visit this place are supposed to be the top of the world and to make matters even better, this is the only house in the world that has a 100 percent success rate in this surgery.

The booking has been made on the 8th of August. Hope nothing comes in at the last moment to change my plans again as usual.

So the next time you see me without glasses, i have not forgotton them, rather avoided them forever!

Karthik - A new look dawns finally.
